Key Ingredients

  • Urea

Urea is a Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) that helps support a healthy, soft, supple moisture barrier. It has been shown to nourish the skin’s own production of Ceramides.

  • Arginine

An active amino acid that is also a Natural Moisturizing Factor, Arginine is a precursor of Urea. It nourishes the skin’s own repair processes for better retention of moisture and suppleness.

  • Ceramides

These lipids (fats) are found at high levels in the uppermost layers of skin. Among their many roles, Ceramides form a protective layer to help prevent moisture loss from the skin.

  • Phytosphingosine

This active ingredient is often used in personal care products. It is naturally present in the skin and is very active, even at low levels. It supports a healthy balance of Ceramides in the skin barrier and is suitable for acne-prone and highly sensitive skin.

  • Sodium Lactate & Potassium Lactate

These Natural Moisturizing Factors are highly effective in treating atopic dermatitis. They are ‘active ingredients’ and help restore a healthy skin barrier.

  • Fruit Seed Extracts

Cranberry, Pomegranate, Raspberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Carrot, Tomato and other fruit and vegetable seed extracts are rich in essential fatty acids and sterols that are essential in maintaining a healthy skin barrier. Omega’s 3,6&9 play many cell communication roles while also providing immediate moisturization. Look for extraction processes that are oxygen-free and don’t use heat or chemical solvents to ensure the nutrients are best protected.

  • Niacinamide

Niacinamide is highly active and has multitasking benefits that support a healthy moisture barrier and promote smooth, supple skin.

  • Jojoba

Jojoba, although a relatively ‘old’ ingredient, has been used for years to help effectively restore a strong skin barrier. Its unique chemical composition makes it suitable for eczema and acne-prone skin.

  • Squalene

This recently trendy ingredient is naturally present in the skin barrier and has excellent moisturization benefits. Squalene also promotes skin suppleness and flexibility.

  • Caprylic and Capric Triglyceride

Derived from coconut oil, these ingredients are sometimes referred to as fractionated coconut oil. They play a supporting role in many moisturizers, improving emollience and hydration benefits.

  • Panthenol

Also known as Vitamin B-5, Panthenol has been shown to play an important role in protecting the skin barrier and maintaining homeostasis.

SkinPhysiology

Dry skin typically results from a damaged skin barrier. The skin barrier—the surface of the skin—is designed to keep the “good stuff” (moisture) in and the “bad stuff” (bacteria, infections, pollutants, etc.) out. Very small cracks, invisible to the naked eye, appear on the skin barrier, permitting moisture to seep from our skin into the atmosphere. These cracks are commonly induced by harsh cleansers, toners, over exfoliation, and sun exposure. Despite common misconceptions, it’s rarely the case that our skin is dry because we are not drinking enough water.

SkinCareTips

First and foremost, always seek to maintain a healthy skin barrier. You can accomplish this by adhering to the following steps. Cleanse just once daily, in the evening. Avoid foaming cleansers—the ingredients that make a cleanser foam typically damage the skin barrier. Additionally, avoid toners. Exfoliate only a couple of days per month. Use a sunscreen daily. Nourish the skin with products containing essential fatty acids like Omega’s 3,6&9, Vitamins B-3/B-5 and Vitamins C & E.
